Zusammenfassung:3641. Warren, W. P. Feb. 12. Acetylene.-Relates to apparatus in which the carbide is automatically supplied to the water, and which is applicable for use with table lamps, vehicle lamps, and the like. The carbide holder D is connected with the water vessel A by a union C and packing-ring B, and communicates with it by an aperture F fitted with a conical valve J carried by a tube J . The top of the holder is closed by an india-rubber diaphragm L, to which is secured a cap L . The tube J is normally pressed against the cap L by a spring H, and the cap is pressed down by a stronger spring N mounted between the cap and a fixed bracket M. The normal tension of the spring N is adjusted by a sleeve N and a nut N which rests upon the bracket M. In operation, the pressure of the gas in the apparatus determines the position of the cap L and, consequently, the opening or closing of the valve J . In order to avoid a variable weight of carbide upon the valve J , a cone K, supported by a fixed sleeve K', is provided. Excessive gas pressure in the apparatus is relieved through a tube Q mounted within a tube P and ending below in a disc Q , which is normally held up against the cap L' by a spring R. When the top of the tube Q abuts against the bail R' and the cap L is raised above the disc Q , the gas enters the tube Q by a lateral opening Q and thus escapes.
