1284294 Retractable ball-point pen/fountain pen combination D WANG 8 Sept 1969 44335/69 Heading B6P A rotary retracting mechanism for a ball-point pen comprises an internally-threaded cylinder 8 mounted for non-axial rotational movement in the pen barrel 7, and an externally-threaded, hollow, refill holder 9 mounted for axial non- rotational movement in the pen barrel 7. A tip portion 12, which is threaded onto the cylinder 8 and secured thereon by adhesive, is rotated relative to the barrel 7, thereby rotating the cylinder 8 to project and retract the refill 11. The flange 8a on the cylinder prevents axial movement thereof, and a flange 9a on the holder 9 co-operates with a complementary shaped inner barrel surface to prevent rotation of the holder 9. A stopper 10 limits the extent of retraction. A fountain pen is screwed into the other end of the pen barrel 7.
