Films and foils may be obtained from high molecular weight compounds by applying a high molecular weight compound or components from which it may be produced to a smooth or grained, or flocked support, which may if desired be removable, embedding short flock fibres in this layer by electrostatic and/or mechanical means, applying a further layer of the high molecular weight compound, applying unstretched synthetic fibres by mechanical means calendering the product, repeating this process if desired, and finally applying a covering layer of a high molecular weight compound which may or may not be the same as the previously used high molecular weight compound. The high molecular weight compounds may be polyurethanes, polyimides, polyamides, polyesters, methylacrylate or methylacrylate polymers, polyvinyl and polyvinylidene compounds or polyolefines such as polyethylene or polypropylene. Examples of suitable compounds are given. Flock fibres which may be used may be of natural or synthetic fibres such as wool, cotton, rayon, polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes or polyacrylonitrile. The unstretched synthetic fibres may be obtained from polyurethane, polyamides, polyesters or from polyacrylonitrile. The fibres may have staple length of 1-60 mm. and may be scattered by mechanical means or applied to the surface in the form of a fleece. |
