description 1,215,274. Attaching connectors to coaxial cables; stamping. AMP. Inc. 18 Aug., 1969 [23 Aug., 1968], No. 41109/69. Headings B3A and B3Q. [Also in Division H2] A method of connecting the outer conductor 24 of a coaxial cable 12 to a cylindrical member 11, includes expanding an end portion of the conductor 24 and positioning it over the member 11, arranging a malleable ferrule 14 over the expanded end portion, deforming a first portion I of the ferrule so that the expanded portion is gripped between the ferrule and the member, and deforming a second portion II of the ferrule to hold the conductor 24 to its original size adjacent the end of the member. In the die set 30, 36 used in deforming the ferrule, the upper die 30 includes a surface 32 having a downwardly projecting portion and a similarly shaped surface 34 projecting beyond the surface 32. The projecting portions of the die 30 enter receptacle portions of the die 36 to define an essentially circular configuration, Fig. 5 (not shown), the dies being closed by a straight action applicator mechanism.
