The jet pipe of the engine ends in a nozzle 14 of which the exit area is variable by means (e.g. flaps 26) which spoil the jet pipe thrust thereby increasing the pressure ratio across the turbine causing the fan 16 to overspeed and increase the reverse thrust. The engine 10 may be mounted on a pylon 11 under the aircraft wing 8.
