description 1,164,152. Telephone ringers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 6 Jan., 1967 [7 Jan., 1966], No. 15205/69. Divided out of 1,164,151. Heading G5J. In a polarized magnetic ringer, a resilient U- shaped member having two arms 15, one on either side of the hammer arm 11 of the ringer, limits the movement of the hammer arm and hence the volume of sound emitted by the ringer, adjustment of the limiting effect being by means of a cam 17 mounted between the arms 15. The cam may be moved by rotation of a knob located on the underside of the telephone, or by movement of an arm 18, 181 projecting either from the front or the side of the telephone. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the cam is constituted by a wedgeshaped block (40) on the end of a supported control arm (41) projecting either from the front or the side of the telephone.
