description 1,153,197. Moulding machines. J. W. JACKMAN & CO. Ltd. 5 June, 1967 [20 June 1966]. No. 25813/66. Heading B3F. Apparatus for manufacturing moulds and cores from a sand and thermosetting resin binder mix, comprises mould halves 20 and a base shuttle 13 that are heated by radiant heaters 24, 25 that are made in the form of a hollow chamber divided into compartments (26) (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), each having porous refractory walls (34) that allow a combustible gas to permeate therethrough and burn uniformly over their outer surface. In operation, the two mould halves 20 are closed together by motors 21 and are then raised by a ram (18) (Fig. 2, not shown) to connect with a granular material supply nozzle 22 in a blow head 23. The mould halves are then lowered and separated and the finished cores are moved sideways along a table (11) by the base shuttle 13 alternately in each direction.
