description 1,131,508. Core-making machines. J. W. JACKMAN & CO. 22 Nov., 1966 [13 Dec., 1965], No. 52831/65. Heading B3F. [Also in Division B5] In a core-making machine, two halves 3, 4 are moved together hydraulically above onehalf of a sliding plate 5 so that the three parts form a core-box on a table 2 which is then raised to clamp the box against a head (7) for feeding, e.g. blowing-in, material such as sand containing oil, silicate or resin. The box may then be heated and the table 2 and box 3, 4, 5 are lowered. The halves 3, 4 are then separated and the plate 5 carrying the moulded core or cores is slid horizontally to one side for manual stripping of the core or cores while the halves 3, 4 are closed over the other half of the plate 5 before the completed core-box is raised again to the feed head 7. This process is continued with the sliding plate 5 projecting alternately from one or other side of the halves 3, 4. CO 2 may be supplied to the core-box 3, 4, 5 for setting the core material. Vertical pins 6 secure the core or cores on the plate 5 and may be large enough to produce hollow cores. A subsidiary plate, raisable for stripping, may fit loosely over the pins, or the pins may drop slightly as the plate 5 slides sideways.
