description 1,130,653. Polymerizable dental repair materials. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 12 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 45537/66. Heading C3P. A dental repair material which cures rapidly at room temperature comprises a mixture of (i) a powdered bead polymer of methyl math. acrylate and/or a copolymer of methyl methacrylate with an acrylic or methacrylic acid ester other than methyl methacrylate; (ii) monomeric methyl methacrylate; (iii) a polymerization catalyst comprising (a) a peroxy compound and (b) an aromatic sulphinic acid or a salt thereof, or a tertiary aromatic amine; and (iv) 1-50% by weight, referred to the total monomer present, of a monomeric acrylic or methacrylic acid hydroxy-alkyl ester. The material is prepared for use by combining (1) an admixture of components (i) and (iii)a with (2) the monomer components (ii) and (iv), the catalyst component (iii)b being included in either of the components (1) or (2). The monomer (iv) may be, for example, a mono-(meth)- acrylate ester of ethylene glycol, 1,2-propylene glycol, 1,2-butylene glycol, glycerol or diethylene glycol. The monomers may include a small proportion (about 5% by weight) of methacrylic acid. In examples the polymer component used is a methyl methacrylate-ethyl acrylate bead copolymer, the monomers are stabilized with hydroquinone, 2,21-dihydroxy-3,31,5,51- tetramethyl-diphenylmethane or 2,6-di-t-butylp-cresol, and the catalyst is mono-t-butyl ester of monopermaleic acid in combination with the morpholine salt of 2,4,5-trimethylbenzenesulphinic acid or the potassium salt of p-toluenesulphinic acid, or p-chlorobenzoyl peroxide in combination with dimethyl-p-toluidine.
