description 1,033,719. Electromagnets. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Oct. 7, 1964 [Oct. 7, 1963], No. 40886/64. Heading H1P. In an ironless high field rectangular solenoid for resonance experiments, errors in field intensity due to the finite length of the coil are reduced by leaving a rectangular turnless space # inside the coil. A single layer of turns may be omitted. The turns are of aluminium insulated by anodic deposition, sealed in a non- magnetic housing (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), and cooled by circulating liquid methylnaphthalene. Axial alumina rods mounted on spiders at each end space the turns. The vacant space in the inner layer of turns may be occupied by additional coils for further connection of the field (Fig. 6, not shown).
