Gelling agent for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals

Gelling agents comprising at least one chitosan and at least one partial alkyl or hydroxy alkyl alginate pref. where the hydroxy alkyl group is derived from propylene glycol in which the esterification level is at least 70%, are new.The chitosan is prepd. by deacetylation of natural chitin, 50% and preferably 80-100% deacetylation being effected. The chitosan may be substituted by carboxymethyl, carboxybutyl, or succinyl groups. Agent gélifiant pour des compositions cosmétiques et pharmaceutiques. L'agent gélifiant résulte de l'association d'un chitosane et d'un alginate d'alkyle ou d'hydroxyalkyle, ce dernier ayant un taux d'estérification supérieur à 70%. L'agent gélifiant permet d'obtenir un gel aqueux ayant des caractéristiques très satisfaisantes et à partir duquel on peut encapsuler des substances hydrophobes polaires dans une membrane constituée de l'agent gélifiant.
