A method of producing a ball and socket joint consisting of a pin (1) with an integrally formed ball head (2), a housing (8) and a bearing layer (4, 5, 6) disposed between the ball head (2) and the housing (8) is described. The ball head (2) is coated with a lubricant (4, 5), then a lost casing (6) is applied over the lubricant (4, 5) and the ball head (2) is inserted into a mould or former (7) for the housing and the free space between the ball head and the former is filled with a material, e.g. a glass fibre reinforced polyester resin, which hardens to form the housing (8). In order to preserve freedom of movement of the ball head in a socket defined by the housing, where the ball head has a flat or polar surface (3) as a result of its production by machining, it is proposed to form a lubricant cushion (5) on the polar surface substituting for the missing ball cap and envelope this with the lost casing (6) before the housing is produced.
