description The basic co-axial cable has a central conductor (1) embedded in a cylindrical sheath of insulator (2) with an outer conducting layer. To form a bend, the semi-rigid cable is passed through an arrangement where its path is constrained to run between two rollers which introduce strains in the various layers in the cable which tend to set it in a curve. Once the bend has been formed, insulating plugs (6) are fitted over the ends. A thicker layer of metal (7) typically of copper, is formed on top of the outer conducting layer by an electro-deposition technique. This outer layer serves as a mechanical reinforcement and stiffens the bend. The ends of the outer metal layer are machined with chamfers and grooves which allow conventional co-axial connectors to be fitted to the ends. A variation of the basic Process is provided for single, un-insulated cables which receve frst a deposited layer of insulation.
