Joint between square hollow sections for assembling furniture - uses half-housing ferrules screwed into rail ends, with tenons inserted into post to be secured by pin

The rapidly mountable joint connects a post (1) to two or more rails (2) and may be incorporated in furniture-building kits. It uses ferrules (3) which are each rebated and which each extend from a rail end. Their reduced ends (4) enter the post to be connected by a pin (7) on the post axis. The reduced ends complement one another and each ferrule is fixed in the relevant rail end by a screw (10). An offsetting to the screw-holes (10,11) in the rails and the ferrules is used to clamp the pins (7) in place. Openings (5) in the post wall may locate individual reduced ferrule ends, the posts may include shelf-receiving notches (15).
