Sealing the gaps between cooling plates in blast furnaces - where sealing cement is anchored in gaps via u:shaped profiles fixed to metal backing strip

The cooling plates are located side by side inside the furnace casing. The device consists of a strip fitted with at least one rod located at 90 degrees w.r.t. the plane of the strip and forming a U-shaped frame fixed to two adjacent cooling plates; the frames are employed to anchor the stuffing or filler employed to seal the gaps between the plates. One pref. device consists of a metal strip fitted with two rows of rods, where the strip forms the base of each U-profile. Alternatively, a row of rods bent into the shape and a U are mounted on the strip. In either case, the free ends of the rods are pref. bend outwards so they can be located on the cooling plates. The filler is securely anchored between the plates, but the latter can be removed when required.
