description | 1,103,997. Valves. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 2 May, 1966 [19 May, 1965], No. 19234/66. Heading F2V. A safety valve, particularly for deflating a balloon which has escaped from its moorings, comprises a cross-piece 12 secured to the walls of the aperture, a cap 22 held against the aperture by a central element 16, and a device 25 for breaking the element to release the cap and open the aperture. The device 25 preferably comprises pyrotechnic shears fed by a high capacitance drive battery with a switch which may be controlled remotely or by changes in pressure or temperature and be connected in parallel with a time-controlled switch. The crosspiece 12 is rigidly connected to a reinforcing ring 4 clamped to the edge of the aperture and to a seating ring 10 and a further reinforcing ring 2 by butterfly bolts (not shown). A replaceable part at the end of the rod 16 is broken by the shears and the cap and rod are driven apart by springs 24, 26. When the device 25 is inoperative, the cap may be locked in the closed position by a pin 36. |
