The force produced in each case during the lifting movement is measured by means of a force meter and signalled to an electronic analyzer. To obtain control over the respective crimping connection which is as simple and reliable as possible, it is proposed to let the force meter monitor a particular adjustable final value of the crimping force and, controlled by this, to let the analyzer directly determine the lower turn-over point of the lifting movement individually. At the same time, a length measurement is carried out in the direction of the lifting movement, at the time of the lower turn-over point and during this process the crimping height of the connecting element is determined.
