The present invention relates to a process for preparing iron oxide yellow pigments having a low silking effect, the formation of nuclei of needle-shaped alpha -FeOOH yellow pigments being performed in the presence of compounds of the elements B, Al, Ga, Si, Ge, Sn or Pb in amounts from 0.05 to 10% by weight, calculated as the tri- or tetravalent oxides, and relative to the alpha -FeOOH precipitated in the formation of nuclei, and an iron oxide yellow pigment being allowed to grow on the yellow nucleus. |
