The flying capacitor converter (100) comprises at least two cells. Each cell comprises a capacitor having a first DC side and a second DC side, a first switch (122, 132) connected to the first DC side and to a capacitor of a following cell or an output circuit, and a second switch (124, 134) connected to the second DC side and to the capacitor of the following cell or the output circuit. During a nominal non-fault operation of the flying capacitor converter (100), only one of the first switch (122, 132) and the second switch (124, 134) is in a conducting state, and during a fault operation where the first switch (122, 132) has a short-circuit failure and the second switch (124, 134) has a conducting state, the protection circuit (170) is configured to keep the second switch (124, 134) switched-on. |
