This method comprises a step (10-30) of determining whether the power supply unit has at least one problem, whether the on-board power system will have an upcoming energy-consuming need, and information representative of an electrical energy production capacity of the electrical energy generator, and then determining a state representative of a level of energy shortage of the power supply unit based on this determined information, a determined potential problem and a determined potential upcoming energy-consuming need.
