The gas density gauge includes a parallel plate capacitor (32) having a pair of plates (34 and 36). Opposing surfaces (38 and 40) of the plates are separated by a distance (d) across an open gap (44). A capacitance of the capacitor is related to a density of a gas within the open gap.
