IMPROVED PROCESS FOR MAKING DIARYL SULFONES

A process for preparing diaryl sulfones is disclosed. The process comprises coupling an aryl compound with a sulfonic acid to provide a diaryl sulfone. The sulfonic acid is coupled to the aryl compound in the presence of a catalyst as defined herein. During the coupling step water is removed.
