A compressor (22) of said type is characterised in that at least one end section (62) of the flow guide element (52) which is adjacent to the compressor impeller (30) can be longitudinally-axially moved, said end section (62) closing the peripheral flow region (56) in the region of the inlet plane (38) when the flow guide element (52) is in the closed position and is released when it is in the open position.
