description The invention refers to a method for quantitatively determining an analyte in a liquid sample, comprising: providing a liquid sample comprising an analyte of interest and a marker substance bound to the analyte; preparing a mixed liquid sample by mixing the liquid sample with a hyperpolarized gas, the marker substance and the hyperpolarized gas providing a host-guest system in the mixed sample, wherein the hyperpolarized gas is having a shift of nuclear magnetic resonance frequencies in case of a transition from a freely dissolved state to a host-bound state in which the hyperpolarized gas is bound to the marker substance in the mixed sample; experimentally determining the mixed sample by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy; from results of the NMR spectroscopy, determining a concentration of the hyperpolarized gas in the mixed liquid sample for at least one of the freely dissolved state and the host-bound state of the hyperpolarized gas; and quantitatively determining the analyte in the liquid sample. Also, use of the method for quantitatively determining a liquid biological ex-vivo sample is provided. Further, it is referred to use of the method in a multiplexing mode for quantitation of a plurality of analytes by different markers used simultaneously.
