Zusammenfassung:The laser driver (10) has a laser diode power supply (11) to provide a voltage lower than half of a laser-threshold voltage of the laser diode (3). An inductive component (12) is provided in a supply path of the laser diode lying in a circuit between the power supply and the laser diode. An electronic switching element (13), particularly parallel to the laser diode arranged in a direction, such that a current flow is generated by the inductive component in a switching position of the switching element. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for generating a laser pulse by using a laser diode; (2) a method for pulsed operation of a laser diode to a supply voltage; and (3) a method for monitor diode loose ensuring security in a single error laser diode driver, particularly in an electro-optical distance meter.
