The invention relates to a vacuum cleaner (1) comprising a basic appliance (2) provided with an electric motor (M), and a handle (3) that can be inserted into the basic appliance and comprises an actuating grip (4). Said vacuum cleaner also comprises a mechanically displaceable regulating unit (S) for controlling the power of the electric motor (M). A signal required for controlling the power of the electric motor (M) is guided from the handle (3) to the base appliance (2), and a signal receiver is arranged in the base appliance (2). The aim of the invention is to improve one such vacuum cleaner in terms of the control of the power of the electric motor in the base appliance. To this end, a signal transmitter which is supplied with energy by the mechanical displacement of the regulating unit (S) is arranged in the actuating grip (4).
