The present invention relates to the use of resorcin[4]arenes to absorb one or more nitrogen oxides in a nitrogen oxide-containing medium. Further aspects of the invention relate to NO + complexes with resorcin[4]arenes and filter elements comprising one or more resorcin[4]arenes.
