Method for producing and/or treatment of a material web

The adhesive or other coating is applied onto the web of material, at most over the width of the uncut web. Width of coating is less than that of the web. Following the pressing gap a first edge section of the web is taken out. It is removed before the pressing gap. The trimmed edge strip passes through the pressing gap, together with the remaining web. The same processes are applied to the opposite edge strip. Edge strip removal takes place before or after transfer of the web into the next section of the production machine. Further details of plant configurations based on these principles are described. Contaminated edges are cleaned to minimize contamination of the recirculated process water by adhesive, chemicals etc. The water is recirculated in a closed loop; it is neutralized. Further provisions excluding contamination and machine configurations are described. The separated edges are subjected to suction, blowing and/or rolling. They are dried, neutralized, processed and re-used. Their treatment avoids interference with chemicals in the wet section of the machine. A pressing felt with sealed edges is used. The press covering is hydrophobic in the region of the first and/or second edge strip. An Independent claim is included for corresponding coating plant.
