Zusammenfassung:	A beam applied to a chromatographic specimen (8) from a light source (201) is formed having an elliptical shape by an optical device such as a cylindrical lens (205). The change of absorbance due to the elution of a labeled reagent is detected by the beam being applied to a position between a labeled reagent holding portion (82) and a detecting portion (83) and the measurement is automatically started a predetermined time after the above detection.
