Zusammenfassung:The method of manufacturing the magnetic medium for data storage comprising magnetic segments (5) for data storage which alternate regularly with nonmagnetic segments, which method comprises deposition on a substrate (1) from a nonmagnetic material a material having low or zero initial magnetization and capable of varying its magnetic characteristics under the effect of irradiation. The mentioned material is laid on the substrate (1) as a layer (2) in a thickness corresponding to one of the overall size values of any one of the magnetic segment (5) being formed. Then the applied layer (2) is selectively irradiated so as to vary the magnetic characteristics of the material of the layer (2) on the irradiated segments before forming the magnetic segments (5) each having a maximum overall size the ratio between which and any other overall size of this magnetic segment is from 3.5:1 to 15:1.
