The phosphor elements are disposed within the openings in the matrix. A color selection electrode 25 is mounted within the faceplate panel 12, in proximity to the screen 22. An electron gun 26 is centrally disposed within the neck 14 for generating and directing a plurality of electron beams 28 toward the screen 22. The screen structure is improved by having at least one of the phospor elements disposed on the imperforate border 123 of the matrix 23.
