Zusammenfassung:	A retention device for a rear-view mirror (1, 2), such as a wing mirror for an automobile. A mirror housing (2) is articulatedly mounted on an arm (3) which in turn has a shaft (30) received in an sleeve (40) of a base (4) adapted to be secured to a side of a vehicle. Means (5) are provided for tightening or loosening the grip of the sleeve on the shaft to allow or prevent rotation of the arm relative to the base, and a retaining device (6) comprises a projecting tip (60) projecting from the inner wall of the sleeve into a recess in the shaft or vice versa and urged into engagement by resilient means such as a leaf spring or laminated spring (61).
