The dispenser includes a cylinder (10) and a plunger (21) within the cylinder (10), a magnetic core (12) coupled to the cylinder (10) or the plunger (21), and a solenoid (14) which is activated in response to the detection of a user's hands to cause relative movement of the plunger (21) within the cylinder (10) to dispense the soap. Preferably a plurality of dispensers are connected to a single reservoir of liquid soap.
