Spin-valve GMR sensor with inbound exchange stabilization

A spin valve giant magnetoresistive transducer for cooperation with a magnetic medium on which data tracks are recorded comprises: (a) a ferromagnetic layer including end portions spaced by a central active portion; (b) first (86) and second (88) electrical lead layers formed of electrically conductive material and disposed respectively in laterally abutting contact with the end portions; and (c) first (90) and second (92) longitudinal magnetic bias layers, disposed above the electrical lead layers and in contact with the end portions for providing a magnetic bias to the ferromagnetic layer and for defining the track width of the data tracks.
