Low-melting potassium fluoroaluminate

Production of potassium aluminium fluoride, useful as low melting flux for aluminium brazing, involves reacting Al(OH)3, HF and KOH in an Al:F:K molar ratio of 1:5 plus or minus 0.2:2 plus or minus 0.1 in an aqueous medium to precipitate low melting potassium aluminium fluoride which, after vacuum drying at 80 degrees C, has a melting point of 546-550 degrees C (as determined by differential scanning calorimetry). Also claimed is potassium aluminium fluoride which is produced by the above method and which, after vacuum drying at 80 degrees C, has a melting point of 546-550 degrees C. |
