Zusammenfassung:	A device for delivering a heparinic anticoagulant across a mucosal surface in order to achieve or maintain a therapeutically effective blood level of the heparinic anticoagulant. The device involves a matrix containing a therapeutically effective amount of a heparinic anticoagulant, and a mucoadhesive or other mechanism for maintaining the matrix in contact with the mucosal surface for a time sufficient to allow release of the heparinic anticoagulant to the mucosal surface.
