Zusammenfassung:	The pinion head for a rack and pinion power steering gear includes a pinion gear, a spindle integral with the pinion gear at a first end of it, and an annular skirt integral with the pinion gear at a second end of it having an outer cylindrical surface. The pinion head further comprises a number of hob-formed pinion gear teeth on the pinion gear extending between the first end and the second end of it having a root diameter dimension less than the diameter of the outer cylindrical surface. There is a hob runout groove in the annular skin affording exit clearance for a tooth-forming gear hob between the second end of the pinion gear and the outer cylindrical surface. It also has an in situ injection moulded plastic sleeve rigidly attached to the pinion head in the hob runout groove having an outer cylindrical wall defining an extension of the outer cylindrical surface of the annular skirt and terminating at an annular shoulder facing the second end of the pinion gear.
