Zusammenfassung:Prepn. of silane polysulphides comprises: (a) contacting hydrogen sulphide gas with an active metal alkoxide soln.; and (b) reacting elemental sulphur and a halohydrocarbylalkoxysilane of formula (I), with the product of (a); Q-R-X (I). -Si(R1)(R1)(R2), -Si(R1)(R2)(R2), -Si(R2)(R2)(R2) Q =, R1 = 1-4C alkyl, phenyl; R2 = 1-8C alkyl, 5-8C cycloalkoxy, 1-8C alkylmercapto; R = 1-18C divalent hydrocarbyl gp; and X = halogen. The reaction produces a cpd. of formula (II); Q-R-Sn-R-Q, n = 2-9. Also claimed is the prepn. of (C2H5O)3Si(CH2)3-S4-CH2)3Si(OC2H5)3 which comprises: (a) contacting an ethanol soln. of Na ethoxylate with hydrogen sulphide gas to produce a soln. of Na2S; and (b) adding the soln. of Na2S to an elemental sulphur and 3-chloropropyl triethoxy silane slurry and reacting to completion.
