Alternate layers of bundles of hollow yarns (5) and conventional yarns (6) are arranged so that the hollow yarns are wavy or straight while the conventional yarns (6) are wavy. The two sets of yarns (5,6) cross over at several points. When the hollow yarns (5) are wavy, the wave is displaced or of greater wavelength. Also claimed is a process where the yarn bundles are wound on a drum with appropriate traverse guides and are then removed from the drum by cutting them transversely in at least one position. 40 Hollow yarns of 150-400 micron diameter and 40 conventional yarns of 21 micron diameter with 14 filaments are wound in 5 groups of each on a drum 120 cm diameter at a speed of 52 m/min to give a 80 mm wide muff. The conventional yarns make about 8 complete traverses per drum revolution while the hollow yarns make less than one traverse per revolution. The muff is cut in several places to give shorter bundles which are then shaped to a circular cross-section. |
