Zusammenfassung:	The title pyrimidine useful as an intermediate for vitamine B1, is prepd. by the reaction of 2-alkyl-4-amino-5-formyl pyrimidine with hydrogen and ammonia in the presence of redn. cat. Thus 1.37 g (10 m mol) 2-methyl-4-amino-5-formyl pyrimidine and 15 ml MeOH and 0.5 g cat. of 5 wt.% Pd-supported active carbon, are reacted with 13.4g ammonia at N2 atmosphere at 60oC for 1 hr. The reaction product is reacted again with H2 at 40 Kg/cm2 G for 3 hr followed by adjusting with 1N-Hcl to PH 3 to give 2-methyl-4amino-5-aminopyrimidine (yield 90 %).
