1506120 Low-foaming detergent compositions HOECHST AG 20 July 1976 [23 July 1975] 30165/76 Heading C5D Low-foaming detergent compositions comprising at least one anionic or nonionic surfactant, one or more builders or detergency improvers and a foam regulator comprising at least one mono- and/or di-partial ester of ortho-, pyro- or tripolyphosphoric acid, the alcoholic component of the ester being a radical wherein R is a C 12 -C 22 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical and n is 0 to 6, are prepared by a process comprising blending the foam regulator with an intermediate product obtained by hot spray-drying all or some of the remaining components of the detergent composition. The surfactant may be sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate, a tallow alcohol (11-15 E‹) ethoxylate, a hardened tallow soap, a palmitic amine (8-15 E‹) ethoxylate, or a lauryl ether (2-6 E‹) sulphate. The composition may include sodium sulphate, sodium carbonate, sodium or magnesium metasilicate, sodium perborate tetrahydrate, sodium tripolyphosphate, tetrasodium diphosphate, disodium dihydrogen diphosphate, carboxymethylcellulose and a stabilizer for peroxides. The intermediate may be mechanically mixed with the foam regulator, or sprayed with it in liquid form. The foam regulator may be sprayed on to sodium tripolyphosphate which is mixed with the intermediate, or the intermediate may be sprayed with a liquid comprising the foam regulator, a surfactant and sodium perborate.
