description 512,837. Wheel tyres. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-. (American Chain & Cable Co., Inc.). March 17,1938,No. 8284. [Class 144.(ii)] The ground-engaging links of a tyre-chain are formed as closed loops with projecting caulks diverging from, and extending laterally outwardly beyond, the side strands of the link. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the link 10 of the cross-chain member is straddled by a yoke-shaped caulk 11 having divergent ground-engaging arms 13 and secured by a riveted stud 15. The projecting head 20 of the latter may be diamond or other shape to afford ground-grip. To facilitate assemblage oh existing tyre-chains, the stud 15 may be screw-threaded into the yoke 11 or, the stud may be omitted, in which case the yoke may be welded to the link. In the modifications shown in Figs 8, 9, and 17, separate caulks, each formed with one or more ground-engaging elements, are welded to the side strands of the links. Fig. 30 shows a modification in which an arch-shaped caulk 130 with knife-edges 124 is welded across the sides 111, 112 of a curblink 110. Fig. 36 shows a further modification in which the apex 125 of a vee-shaped caulk 120c projects through the link to engage the tyre 126.
