[Class 121] [Also in Group IV] An adhesive for wood, &c., consists of a condensation product of melamine and an aldehyde together with a starch-conversion product. The condensate is prepared by heating melamine and formaldehyde in alcohol or acetone and evaporating to dryness in vacuo, The starch product may be a swelling starch or dextrin. Small quantities of acids, acid salts and salts may be added. In a typical example, 6 parts dextrin, 2 parts swelling starch, 2 parts melamine-formaldehyde condensate, 0.1 parts ammonium chloride are stirred with water and applied with heat and pressure. |
