description The invention relates to a dialogue-oriented programming device and to a method for compiling control programs for CNC machines having screen and keyboard to enter and to change the desired functional sequence and control sequence of the machine. In a central storage unit and processing unit, the input data are processed to form control data for the machine control and are output as a control program for the machine. In order to configure such a programming device to be flexible and more configurable for the user or programmer, it is proposed to arrange, in the central storage unit and processing unit, a dialogue macro interpreter for describing the processing sequence and dialogue sequence (functional description unit), the sequence description and the allocation and assignment of program parameters to the desired functions of the machine being input to this unit in the form of a functional control matrix, together with the sequence description. The data thus prepared are fed to a program editor unit (functional control unit), in which the data prepared in the dialogue macro interpreter unit are connected to current parameters and further applications and are processed to form program running times (run-time programs). From these, a dialogue-oriented machine control program is then compiled.
