description In an arrangement for controlling a pacemaker, a signal correlated to the heart volume is generated by impedance measurement by means of intracardiac electrodes and forms a quantity for influencing the stimulation frequency. The quantities representing the heart volume are determined as relative volume quantities during predetermined heart phases from an impedance measured between a first pair of two individual, spatially separated intracardiac electrodes (5, 9). This impedance is substantially derived from the relation between the electric potential applied to the first pair of electrodes (5, 9) and the constant current which generates said potential and is applied by a second pair of electrodes (4, 8).
