description Post-prodn. treatment of hollow-fibre membranes made of a synthetic polymer (I) is effected by (a) continuously drawing the surface-dried fibres through two treatment baths in succession in an appts. designed so that the fibres do not change direction or contact the walls of the appts., and (b) washing and/or extracting the fibres to remove bath components and any contaminants resulting from the prodn. process. The 1st bath comprises at least 90 wt.% of one or more solvents for (I) and up to 10 wt% of one or more nonsolvents and/or solutes. The 2nd bath comprises up to 50 wt.% of one or more solvents for (I) and at least 50 wt.% of one or more nonsolvents. The temps. of the 1st and 2nd baths are 0-150 and 1-50 deg.C respectively. The residence times in the 1st and 2nd baths are 0.1-120 and 1-300 sec respectively. The time delay between the 1st and 2nd baths is no more than 300 sec. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used to modify the properties of the membranes, e.g. to increase water permeability and reduce separative selectivity. the membranes may be used in technical, medical and biotechnological applications and in the food industry.
