description A description is given of an impact-protection device (1) for motor-vehicle occupants, in the case of which two gas-inflatable air bags (7a, 8a) are provided on a steering wheel (2). Each of these air bags (7a, 8a) is assigned to a housing half (3a) of a gas generator (3) fastened on the steering-wheel hub (2a). By virtue of different quantities of propellants (5, 6) within the gas generator (3), the air bags (7a, 8a) fill in different, short periods of time and with different internal pressures, with simultaneous triggering of the propellant (5, 6). The air bag (7a) with a high internal pressure is located within the air bag (8a). Consequently, the outer air bag (8a) between the steering wheel (2) and the inner air bag (7a) is largely stabilised in its position against being forced away laterally.
