description The vibrating sorter described for sorting mixtures of lumpy solids having different densities according to density contains a container (1) which is open at the top, is approximately rectangular, has a resilient mounting and has, in the inside, an air-permeable jig bed (6) in a position inclined towards the discharge end. Vibration exciters (27) serve to cause the container (1) to be subjected to linear vibrations having a vibration direction running approximately perpendicularly to the plane of the jig bed (6). The jig bed (6) extends from the feed end only over a part of the container (1), there being arranged, in front of the free end of the jig bed (6) and above the latter, a transverse wall (13) which extends over the width of the container (1) and is inclined in the direction of the feed end. The free edge of the jig bed (6) and the lower edge of a further transverse wall (7) inclined towards the rear end form an outlet gap (23) for heavy material. The interior of the container (1) is divided by the first transverse wall (13) into a first, longer space for the main sorting and an adjoining second space for the re-sorting. A fluidised bed is produced in both spaces with the aid of a pulsating air flow. The light material which deposits on the heavy material leaves the container (1) at the outlet end via an overflow chute (10).
