Method of determining traces of organically bound pollutants on small amounts of sample and apparatus for carrying out the method

In the method for determining traces of organically bound pollutants on small amounts of sample, these are, after removal of interfering trace impurities in a prepurification stage, introduced in liquid form by means of a microlitre syringe or in solid form by means of quartz boats into a pyrolysis tube, are pyrolysed and subsequently the pyrolysis residues are burnt in a stream of oxygen and the pyrolysis and combustion products are heated in a downstream quartz combustion tube and subsequently burnt further and, in this process, the organically bound trace materials are reacted in such a way that they are absorbed in a downstream absorption solution and subsequently are detected by means of ion chromatography and are recorded in an associated computer for the purpose of storage and/or evaluation. The method is particularly suitable for the determination of traces of organically bound halogens and sulphur compounds, with the detection limit being about 0.4 mu g/g. A suitable apparatus is proposed for carrying out the method.
