description In the process for producing moulded articles containing refractory or fire-resistant mineral fibres which are embedded in a carbon-containing matrix, the carbon-bonded moulded articles produced containing mineral fibres, finely divided pitch, tar or resol resins or novolak resins are flocculated from an aqueous suspension onto mineral fibres present in the aqueous suspension, the moulded article is then produced from the suspension, the green moulded article is then dried and pyrolysed at temperatures from 350 DEG C to 1300 DEG C. The moulded articles produced by this process have the advantage that their apparent density can be adjusted within wide limits, it also being possible in particular to reach very low apparent densities.
